Owner | Speech-Language Pathologist
Theresa Nguyen, MSc., R.SLP, SLP(C)
Theresa is a bilingual Speech-Language Pathologist who obtained her Masters of Science in Speech-Language Pathology from the University of Alberta. Her experience working with children is extensive and spans all ages and abilities in various settings including private practice, daycares, preschools, schools, and clinics. Over this decade of working with children, Theresa came to value the importance of early intervention but recognized the barriers and limitations of accessing speech services in the public system. Speech Bear began with the mission of making speech therapy services accessible to families in the Calgary area and empowering families to reach their communication goals. Theresa is dedicated to helping children meet their full potential through play-based therapy approaches and believes in working closely with families to create carefully individualized therapy plans which are fun, effective, and meaningful.

Huong Hoang, MSc.A., R.SLP, SLP(C)
Huong completed her Masters of Science in Speech Language Pathology at McGill University. Huong has worked in research, clinical and leadership roles. Her favourite part of being an SLP is celebrating achievements alongside the children she works with. She highly values collaboration with families and other therapy team members. She believes building trusting relationships with children through child-led and play-based therapy is essential to learning. Growing up as a trilingual, she enjoys exploring how language is intricately interwoven with both culture and identity. She has special interests in Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC), Down syndrome, bilingual learning, and neurodiversity affirming care. In her free time, Huong enjoys karaoke, swimming, video games, and travelling.

Speech-Language Pathology Assistant
Sonam
Sonam is currently in her second year of university, working towards a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education. Sonam hopes to pursue a career as an SLP in the future as well as learn from those experienced in the field. Sonam was raised in a bilingual household and is fluent in both English and Punjabi. This influenced her passion to work with language and help the community because she has experienced the difficulties of language articulation. Sonam believes that each child learns differently through various ways of play and is a huge advocate for play based therapy. She is passionate about making one-on-one connections and is interested in different languages, sounds, and speech. Sonam looks forward to growing along with the children on her journey of becoming an SLP!
